UNION OF ICT, MEDIA AND PRESS PROFESSIONALS, NEPAL (IMPRESSION NEPAL)
IMPRESSION NEPAL
IMPRESSION NEPAL is a leading central union representing workers in the ICT, media, and printing industries. It is legally registered under the Trade Union Act of 1992 and is one of the key affiliates of the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT).
Originally established in 1980 as the Independent Press Workers’ Union of Nepal (IPWUN), IMPRESSION NEPAL was formally launched through a conference of workers from printing-press industries in the Kathmandu Valley. During that period, union rights were not recognized in Nepal, and the union operated almost underground. IPWUN was founded to promote and protect the rights and interests of printing-press workers and played a significant and active role during the Democratic Movement of 1990 and in the years that followed.
With the rapid advancement of the digital world, where everything was changing constantly and life became increasingly virtual, the need for a unified voice grew stronger. Recognizing this, IPWUN and the ICT Professionals Union—another organization representing ICT professionals—came together to address the emerging challenges in this digitized era.
On February 10, 2018, both unions jointly held a national convention in Kathmandu. There, the Independent Press Workers’ Union of Nepal (IPWUN) and the Union of ICT Professionals united under the theme “A Union Towards the Digital World,” forming what is now known as IMPRESSION NEPAL.
